TIPS FOR AN AMAZING PHOTO SESSIon.

TIP #1 Pick out outfits IN ADVANCE. Help yourself avoid unnecessary stress the day of your session by giving yourself enough time to pick the perfect outfits- not only cute in appearance, but comfortable. Pick something you feel good, confident & comfortable in. Try to pick someone that isn't too tight, so you can bend and move around.

TIP #2 If you have kids and there's even the slightest chance your kid(s) could spill, drip, drool, spit up on their outfit- hold off on putting it on until you're at the shoot location. As well as, bring a plan B outfit for you in the event they get cha’ in the parking lot ;)

TIP #3 If you're not keen on doing your own hair and makeup, get someone to do it for you or hire a professional.

TIP #4 Eat or have a snack before your photos... no one likes to be hangry when having their photos taken. Bring snacks for yourself and the kid(s).

TIP #5 Mapquest the shoot location prior to the day of, to give yourself cushion time for driving, arriving, parking and getting yourself and the kids all set. There could be other photographers that will be there with their clients showing up, so give yourself enough time, as I'm not able to provide extra time or a refund, if you are late.

TIP #6 If your kid(s) get shy or literally avoid smiling at all costs when a camera is pulled out, bring a friend, your mom or spouse to help me get them giggling, laughing and smiling by acting like fools, while you get to chill & smile :)

TIP #7 Bribing works… this works for kids AND husbands ;) Ice cream, extra 15 minutes of tv... whatever works. Get your plan of action in place for the day of.

TIP #8 Have fun and be yourselves! Don't worry about recreating that perfect Pinterest shot you saw on Instagram (I guarantee they struggled with the same things you do or will)... let your photos be authentic, unique and beautiful in their own. Let your kids be them-- have fun with them!

TIP #9 E-mail me ANY questions you have prior to the day of your session, so I can make sure to get you an answer in a timely manner :)

TIP #10 If you partake in adult beverages, feel free to have one to loosen up before your session… just not TOO much, because I can “edit out” drunk.

TIP #11 For the ladies- make sure your fingers & toes have a fresh layer of paint on them.

TIP #12 Bring Accessories, but only if they feel like YOU— i.e. hat, jewelry, fun boots, scarf, bandana, sunglasses, etc.

STYLE GUIDE TO LOOK & FEEL YOUR BEST.

  • Color is KING (bold & vibrant especially) and always makes a statement, but a clean black outfit against a light backdrop (fields) can look sleek!

  • Try to stay away: neon colors, avoid competing patterns- choose one (plaid or stripes or polka dots), and no visible logos.

  • Picking 2-3 colors that compliment each other is best! Especially with family photos. No need to look like a 1990’s beach family photo with denim & white or twin day… unless that’s what you’re going for.

  • Look online at family photos you’re drawn to and ask yourself why. What colors did they wear? What type of outfits? Did they wear accessories? Use those “pros” and make them your own!

  • Consider where your photoshoot will be at when choosing your outfits. Ask yourself, does this go with the scenery?

  • For women: tight dresses are sexy, but you can’t move around much in them— your photos will come out extremely stiff looking considering that’s how you’ll feel in a tight dress. Consider wearing something you can move in!

  • See this as opportunity to have fun with your outfits! Want colors that will match your home decor when you print & hang these on your walls— go with that! Want to get done up and go all out— do it!
